“An Eye for An Eye Leaves Two Half-sighted: Justice or Healing in Africa”
Gary Geddes's experiences doing human rights interviews in Rwanda, Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia and Somaliland suggest to him that Western notions of revenge and retributive justice have proven not only inadequate, but also detrimental both to individual healing and to the restoration of harmony in Africa communities.
Canadian writer, poet and teacher, Geddes has written and edited more than forty books of poetry, fiction, non-fiction, drama, translation and anthologies and won a dozen national and international literary awards, including the Commonwealth Poetry Prize (Americas Region), the Lt.-Governor’s Award for Literary Excellence, and the Gabriela Mistral Prize from the government of Chile.
