Tanzania High Commissioner visits CAS

On 5th December Her Excellency Mrs Mwanaidi Sinare Maajar, High Commissioner of the United Republic of Tanzania was hosted by CAS, where she met with staff and discussed current and future links between Tanzania and the Centre.


In the delegation were staff from the Tanzania High Commission in London, along with Apollo Temu, Chairperson of the Tanzania Edinburgh Community Association (TzECA), who collaborated with the University in organising the visit. The meeting in CAS was followed by a brief visit to 21 George Squarewhere the Centre was located prior to moving to the Chrystal Macmillan Buildingto view the Millennial Plaque in honour of Julius Nyerere, first President of Tanzania and graduate of the University of Edinburgh. The High Commissioner was then accompanied by CAS staff to Old College, where she made a courtesy call to Professor Stephen Hillier, Vice-Principal International, and met with Tanzanian students studying at the University. The discussions focussed on visa issues for prospective students, and strengthening existing links between the University and higher education institutions in Tanzania. The talks ended with agreement that the University will support a scholarship named after the late Julius Nyerere.
