James Smith Blogs on African Sci-Fi

Reflects on the rise of African Sci-Fi for Africa in Words

James attended a couple of events at the recent Edinburgh Book Festival with the aim of exploring the emergence of 'African Science Fiction', and in particular the influence of authors such as Lauren Beukes who are in the vanguard.

His blog, hosted on Africa in Words, reflects on the work of Beukes, who writes speculative fiction which is often set in future or alternative South Africas. Can African Sci-Fi say something meaningful about Africa's future and its complex relationships with the world?
