Africa writing retreat for Scotland-based PhDs
On 20-22 March 2015, the Centre of African Studies) is hosting a writing retreat for PhD students. The event has two goals: To connect Africanist scholars across Scotland. To help PhD students to write and publish. We will offer both space to write in a distraction-free environment, and masterclass training on skills such as targeting journals and turning PhD chapters into publications
The retreat is open to PhD students (i.e. those writing up) based at Scottish Universities studying African social science topics.
The retreat is based at Comrie Croft, a rural farmhouse/campsite with numerous outdoor activities close by.
The (subsidised) fee is £25. This covers meals, accommodation, and transport.
Format and commitment
The retreat programme has a mix of activities as well as scheduled writing time. It works best if you are working on finishing a chapter/article, rather than starting from a new one. Therefore, we ask you to provide a draft of your work-in-progress a week before the retreat (on which we can provide feedback).
