Hayter Travel and Field Research Awards

The Hayter Committee invites academic staff travelling and researching in Asia, Russia, Eastern Europe and/or Africa to apply for funding for commitments in 2018.

Deadline for applications - Monday 12th Feb 2018

Funding is open to academic staff i.e. research, teaching or clinical but please note the award is not open to PG or UG students.

The sum available for awards in any year is likely to be about £3,000. The Committee’s usual practice is to divide the sum between three or more applicants.

The Committee will not accept long-term commitments to individual projects; the award of a grant in one year is not a guarantee of support in future years.

Travel and field research grants are normally made in respect of occasional requirements for maintenance and travel while carrying out field research and archival research.

Research must be conducted outside the U.K.

Projects should relate to the society and social conditions of the area in which the research is undertaken.
Please send the application form with a brief covering letter and a one-to-two page proposal outlining the planned research to african.studies@ed.ac.uk
