Derek MacLeod is the Partnerships Manager for the MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program and has worked in a range of roles in the University since 2008. Derek undertook a BSc in Physics at the University of St Andrews before working as President of the Students’ Association there. He was then awarded a scholarship to study at Emory University in Atlanta, GA, USA, where he studied Political Science.

Derek initially interned and then worked in Atlanta and Liberia for the Carter Center, the peace and democracy strengthening organisation headed up by the former US President, Jimmy Carter. He then worked in Private Office within the Scottish Government and for ERIS, a democracy and governance focussed NGO in London, before moving home to Edinburgh in 2008.

Derek has since undertaken the MSc in Africa and International Development within the Centre of African Studies and has previously had responsibility for the University’s recruitment and development across Africa, the Middle East and North America.
