Higher Education Capacity Building
Since 2006 the Scottish Government has funded Higher education capacity building in the Centre of African Studies. The project funds African academics to spend time in Scotland in order to develop research ideas, write, and spend time networking with Scottish academics.
Over the past two years CAS has played host to around a dozen fellows who have worked on topics as diverse as religion and politics in Kenya, civil society in Nigeria and water conflict in Zimbabwe. Fellows have come universities in East, West and Southern Africa and several have gone on to forge long-standing links with academics in Scotland.
The project has played an important role in building Scotland-Africa relationships and in doing so has build both individual and institutional capacity in several African universities.
